CONJUNCTIONS
Meaning | Definition :- Conjunction is a word, or a group of words which connects two or more than two words, phrases, clauses, sentences, etc.
Types of Conjunctions/ Kinds of Conjunctions
1. Co-ordinating Conjunctions
- a. Cumulative Conjunctions
- b. Alternative Conjunctions
- c. Adversative Conjunctions
- d. Illative Conjunctions
2. Sub-ordinating Conjunctions
3. Correlative Conjunctions
4. Compound Conjunctions
1. Co-ordinating Conjunctions
Co-ordinating Conjunctions are the conjunctions that joins two clauses together, one of them will be Principal clause and another will be Co-ordinate Clause.
In other words If a Co-ordinate Clause is formed in a conjunction is called a Co-ordinating Conjunctions.
Co-ordinating Conjunctions are of 4 Types
a. Cumulative Conjunctions
These Conjunctions Connect two Nouns or Pronouns, etc
For Examples:-
And, also, both….and, as well as, now, too, no less than, etc.
b. Alternative Conjunctions
Alternative Conjunctions are those Conjunctions which are used at such places where we have to choose one out of two given alternatives.
For Examples:-
Either….or, Neither….nor, Else, Otherwise, etc.
c. Adversative Conjunctions
The conjunctions which are used to join such sentences where one sentence is the opposite result of the given action.
For Examples:-
But, yet, still, only, however, nevertheless, while, whereas, etc.
d. Illative Conjunctions
The conjunctions which are used to join two actions in a sentence where one sentence is the result of the other action.
For Examples:-
so, hence, etc.
2. Subordinating Conjunctions
Subordinating Conjunctions are the conjunctions that joins two clauses together, one of them will be Principal clause and another will be Subordinating Clause.
In other words If a Subordinate Clause is formed in a conjunction is called a Subordinating Conjunctions.
For Examples:-
3. Correlative Conjunctions
Conjunctions that always appear in pair are known as correlative conjunction.
For Examples:-
Either….or, neither…nor, both…and, not only….but also, thought…yet, whether….or, etc.
4. Compound Conjunctions
When groups of few words act as a conjunction then it become Compound Conjunctions.
For Examples:-
In order that, on condition that, even if, so that, provided that, as though, as well as, as soon as, as if, etc.
