PARTS OF SPEECH

parts of speech

Group of Alphabets is called Word if it has its distinctive meaning. Based on word’s use and functions in a sentence, They are categorized into several types of parts of speech or word classes. It’s quite important to recognize it as it’ll helps you to analyze sentences and understand them. It’ll also helps you to construct a good and grammatically correct sentences.

 

A same word can function as more than one part of speech when used in different circumstances. So it becomes very important to learn and know each Part Of Speech in details, so that it becomes easy to distinguish it all the time correctly.

The Traditional Grammar classifies each word based on Eight parts of speech: the noun, the pronoun, the adjective, the verb, the adverb, the preposition, the conjunction, and the interjection.

Let’s discuss all of them in details

1.NOUN

A noun is the name of a person, place, thing, or idea.

  • Person: Deepika, Pooja, Teacher, Doctor, Radha.
  • Place: Delhi, Mumbai, America, home, office, town, countryside.
  • Thing: Chair, table, apple, car, banana, money, music, dog, monkey
  • Naming Feeling/Qualities/Ideas: Joy, Fear, Beauty, Strength, Anger, etc….

For example :

  1. Shiv is my best friend.
  2. I live in Delhi.
  3. Where are my Pants?

2.PRONOUN

A pronoun is a word used in place of a noun.

  • I, we, You, They, He, She, It, Me, My, His, Her, Them etc….

For example :

  1. He is blessed with so much talent.
  2. I am not sad.
  3. You are beautiful.
  4.  She is asking stupid questions.

3. ADJECTIVE

An adjective modifies, qualifies or describes a noun or pronoun.

  • Green, quick, Slow, happy, sad, confused, and obnoxious etc….

For example :

  1. Pankaj is a smart boy
  2. She is a naughty girl.
  3. The weather is pleasant.
  4. Each candidate is honest.

4. VERB

A Verb is a word used to describe an action, state, or occurrence.

  • jump, stop, explore, be, seem, have, evolve, shrink, widen, love,  ride, become, etc….

For Example:

  1. I love teaching and sharing knowledge.
  2. Sheetal wants to become an artist.
  3. Krishna writes notes of social science.
  4. Stop making noise.

5. ADVERB

An adverb modifies, qualifies or describes a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.

  • boldly, bravely, brightly, cheerfully, deftly, devotedly, eagerly, elegantly, faithfully, fortunately, gleefully, gracefully, happily, honestly, innocently, justly,kindly, angrily, anxiously, badly, boastfully, foolishly, hopelessly, irritably, jealously, etc….

For Example:

  1. He will seriously consider your suggestion.
  2. Tommy is a very faithful dog.
  3. Hemant smiled warmly.
  4. Meera prayed krishna devotedly.

6. PREPOSITION

Preposition, are those words, which are placed before a noun or pronoun and denotes the relation between the noun/pronoun and the other part of the sentence.

  • above, across, against, along, among, around, at, before, behind, below, beneath, beside, between, by, down, from, in, into, near, of, off, on, to, toward, under, upon, with and within, etc….

For Example:

  1. The teacher distributed sweets among the students.
  2. I am sitting in the car.
  3. We reached the examination centre in time.
  4. The bridge was buit over the river.

7. CONJUNCTION

Conjunction is a word, or a group of words which connects two or more than two words, phrases, clauses, sentences etc.

  • but, and, yet, or, because, nor, although, since, unless, while, where, as well as, untill, Not only……but also….ass  rass, as though, otherwise, or else, etc…..

For Example:

  1. Either sit quietly or go away.
  2. He came to meet me, but I was not at home.
  3. He is rich and happy.
  4. Ram as well as his fends is coming.

8. INTERJECTION

An Interjection is a word, or a group of words that demonstrates the sudden emotion or feeling.

  • Hurrah!, Alas!, Wow!, Oh!, Ouch!, Eww!, Yahoo!, Huh!,  Bless you!, Congrats!, Cheerio!, Crikey!, etc….

For Example:

  1. Hurrah! We won the match!
  2. Alas! He failed the exam!
  3. Wow! What a beautiful dress!
  4. Eww! Its taste is so bad!
