Question:- 1. What impressions of Shahid do you gather from the piece?

Answer:- Shahid’s biography, written by Amitav Ghosh, demonstrates that the poet was a complicated man. Even the most awful sickness, cancer, could not break him. In the face of hardship, he was a warrior who never gave up. He refused to utilise the wheelchair while in the hospital, preferring to walk on “his own feet.” He was also a fantastic instructor. Shahid was a huge fan of fine poetry, music, and cuisine. He was an accomplished poet in his own right, and he relished the company of other poets and authors. He had a one-of-a-kind wit and sense of humour. He wasn’t religious in any way. The political turmoil and bloodshed in Kashmir had such an impact on him that ‘Kashmir’ became the core focus of his poetry. He was a very exceptional person.

Question:- 2. How do Shahid and the writer react to the knowledge that Shahid is going to die?

Answer:- Shahid was uncomfortable at first, but soon confessed his sentiments and requested that Amitav Ghosh write about him when he died. The writer was caught aback by the scenario and had no idea what to do. He afterwards said, “Nothing will happen to you,” as is customary. You’re going to be OK.”

Question:- 3. Look up the dictionary for the meaning of the word ‘diaspora’. What do you understand of the Indian diaspora from this piece?

Answer:- ‘People who originate from a certain nation, or whose ancestors came from it, but now reside in other areas of the world,’ is what the term ‘diaspora’ means.

Shahid, his brother, and two sisters were residing in the United States of America, according to this storey. Not just them, but many Indians are migrating overseas nowadays for a number of reasons, including education, work, and other factors. They cross paths every now and again. The diaspora in India is greater than in any other country. Despite having moved overseas, Shahid visits every summer in Srinagar, demonstrating that even when individuals relocate, their love for their homeland never fades and they never forget their birthplace.
