What is National Scheme of Incentive to Girls for Secondary Education ?

The “National Scheme of Incentive to Girls for Secondary Education (NSIGSE)” is a scholarship Scheme sponsored by central Govt. It was launched in May, 2008 by MHRD to provide scholarships to the students of class IX. It objective is  to promote enrollment of girl child in the age group of 14 to 18 at secondary stage, especially those who passed Class 8th and to encourage the secondary level education among such girls. The scheme is now boarded on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Its aim is to establish an enabling environment to promote enrolment and reduce drop out of girls belonging to SC/ST communities in secondary schools and ensure their retention up to the age of 18.

What is the Scholarship Amount ?

 A sum of Rs. 3000/- is deposited in the name of eligible unmarried girls applicant as fixed deposit on enrollment in class IX, who are entitled to withdraw it along with interest thereon upon only after reaching 18 years of age and passing Class X examination.

Who can apply for National Scheme of Incentive to Girls for Secondary Education?

Girls students who pass class 8th and are enrolled in class 9th in State/ UT Government, Government-aided and Local Body schools and belonging to SC or ST category. 

All girls who pass class 8th examination from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (irrespective of whether they belong to SC or ST).

Applicant girls should be below 16 years of age on joining class 9th.

Married girls, girls studying in private unaided schools and enrolled in schools run by Central Government like Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) and CBS affiliated Schools are excluded.

What are the selection criteria of NSIGSE?

To apply for National Scheme of Incentive to Girls for Secondary Education (NSIGSE), students from different States and UTs, who pass class VIII and enroll in class 9th in Government, Government-aided and Local Body schools must register themselves on NSP.

The applications are then verified online on the portal by the prescribed State authorities.

The final list of eligible applicant, complete in all respect, is provided to the Ministry by National Scholarship Portal NSP Team for sanction of the scholarship.

Click on Apply button option on the right of the page.

Fill in all the information carefully and click the register button option.

After register, click on the login button for Login.

Now, fill in all required information carefully then click on the login button option.

The beneficiary girls applicant are required to register as a new user and then
log in to apply for incentive amount.

How Disbursement of Scholarships take place ?

 The Ministry of Human Resource Development  thereafter sanctions funds and releases to the Indian Bank and Union Bank of India, the implementing banks for this Scheme.

The banks then disburse the scholarships/incentive to students directly by electronic transfer into their bank accounts under Direct Benefit Transfer through Public Financial Management System.
