Question:- 1. What havoc has the super cyclone wreaked in the life of the people of Orissa?

Answer:- The storm was very devastating and have washed the houses away and destroyed hundreds of villages. It killed many people and their dead bodies were all around. It made thousands of people homeless and uprooted a large number of trees. Many people lost their loved ones, women became widow and children became orphan. This crazed destruction  wrought by the cyclone continued for the next thirty-six hours.

 

 

Question:- 2. How has Prashant, a teenager, been able to help the people of his village?

Answer:- On reaching his village, Prashant found horrible conditions all around him. With his leadership qualities he took the initiative to rehabilitate people. He made a team of young volunteers and to clean urine, filth, vomit and floating carcasses. He pressurised the merchant to part his rice.He encouraged grief-stricken women to look after orphan children. In this way he became a ray of hope for all.

 

 

Question:- 3. How have the people of the community helped one another? What role do the women of Kalikuda play during these days?

Answer:-  People in the community work together to help one another. They gather the orphaned children and  construct a polythene shelter for them. Men secure food and  other neccessary supplies for the shelter. Women of Kalikuda were encouraged to look after the orphaned children. They also began to work in the food-for-work programme started by an NGO.

 

 

Question:- 4. Why do Prashant and other volunteers resist the plan to set up institutions for orphans and widows? What alternatives do they consider?

Answer:- Answer: Prashant and other volunteers resist the plan to set up institutions for orphans and widows because they belived that in such institutions, children would grow up without any love and widows would face stigma and loneliness. They considered the alternative of resettling the orphans in their own community, possibly in new foster families made up of childless widows and children without adult care.

 

 

Question:- 5. Do you think Prashant is a good leader? Do you think young people can get together to help people during natural calamities?

Answer:- I think that Prashant is a good leader. He organises all together to face the devasted cyclone’s havoc. He becomes a saviour for Ersama’s cyclone victims. In my opinion, youth is power and is a great source of strength. This ability can be used to help civilization in the case of a natural calamity.
