Answer the following questions.
Question:- 1. What was the author’s opinion about Mr Gessler as a bootmaker?
Answer:- The author was very impressed with Mr Gessler’s work as a bootmaker. Mr Gessler’s boots used to be exceptionally well-fitting. They were created solely on demand and with the highest quality materials. They lasted for a very long time.
Question:- 2. Why did the author visit the shop so infrequently?
Answer:- The author didn’t visit to the shop very often because Mr Gessler’s boots used to stay quite long.
Question:- 3. What was the effect on Mr Gessler of the author’s remark about a certain pair of boots?
Answer:- Mr Gessler glanced at the author for a long time after hearing the author’s remark regarding a particular pair of boots, as if expecting him to withdraw his remarks. Then he speculated that the author might have gotten them wet. He instructed the author to return with the boots so that he could repair or change the price of the boots in the bills.
Question:- 4. What was Mr Gessler’s complaint against “big firms”?
Answer:- Mr. Gessler claimed that large corporations did not value their customers’ money. They were gaining market share through ads rather than through the quality of their job. He was primarily unemployed as a result of such businesses, and the volume was decreasing day by day.
Question:- 5. Why did the author order so many pairs of boots? Did he really need them?
Answer:- No, the author didn’t require as many pairs of footwear as he claimed. He ordered so many because he wanted to contribute financially to the bootmaker.

Question:- 1. Do you think Mr Gessler was a failure as a bootmaker or as a competitive businessman?
Answer:- Mr. Gessler was a great bootmaker. His consumers were really pleased with the quality of his footwear.
As a competitive businessman, he was a failure. He didn’t have a lot of cash to spend on marketing. He put all of his earnings into raw materials and rent.
Question:- 2. What is the significance of the title? To whom or to what does it refer?
Answer:- The title refers to Mr. Gessler’s high-quality footwear. It’s an excellent lesson title. It refers to the current business practises in which no one cares about quality.
Quality was extremely important to Mr. Gessler. He worked long hours and wouldn’t let anybody else near his boots. Despite the fact that he had lost business and was spending days in hardship, the man refused to compromise on quality.
Question:- 3. • Notice the way Mr Gessler speaks English. His English is influenced by his mother tongue. He speaks English with an accent.
- When Mr Gessler speaks, p,t,k, sound like b,d,g. Can you say these words as Mr Gessler would say them?

Answer:- Mr. Gessler used to have a German accent when he spoke English. His English was amusing and a little tough to comprehend.

Question:- 4. Speak to five adults in your neighbourhood. Ask them the following questions (in any language they are comfortable in). Then come back and share your findings with the class.
(i) Do they buy their provisions packed in plastic packets at a big store, or loose, from a smaller store near their house?
(ii) Where do they buy their footwear? Do they buy branded footwear, or footwear made locally? What reasons do they have for their preference?
(iii) Do they buy ready-made clothes, or buy cloth and get their clothes stitched by a tailor? Which do they think is better?
Answer:- (i) Yes, people prefer to buy their provisions in bulk from smaller retailers close to their home.
(ii) They get their daily footwear from local stores. They prefer to acquire it from branded stores for office and for parties. They don’t like to spend too much money on their everyday shoes. As a result, people purchase it from local stores.
They want to appear nice at work and at parties, and they want their footwear to last a long time and be comfortable. As a result, they don’t mind spending money on it.
(iii) They are capable of doing both. They buy ready-made garments at times and have them stitched by a tailor at other times. It is simple for them to purchase ready-made clothing. They obtain the most up-to-date fashion while also saving time.
Question:- 5 . Look at the picture.
Let pairs of students talk to each other about leaving the country. One student repeats Ajit’s statement. The other gives a reason for not agreeing with Ajit. The sentence openings given below should be used.

Answer:-
If I leave this country, I’ll miss my friends and family.
There are some things which you can get only here, for example the food that are particularly prepared here, and the care and concern of people around.
There are some special days I’ll miss, particularly the festivals, birthdays and my parents anniversary.
Most of all I’ll miss my brother because we fight on every little things and later on laugh on it.
I think it’s impossible for me to leave my country because I love my family too much and can’t go too far from them.
How can you leave your own country except when there is an emergency?
Depends on one’s intention. I can’t leave for good because I want to celebrate all my special moments with my love ones.
May be for a couple of years I think it should be fine with everything.

Answer:- My aunt decided to pay a visit to her parents last month. My uncle used to cook for himself because he was alone at home. He was a bit careless person. He once went outside to clean his bicycle after putting veggies on the burner. After a while, a neighbour informed him to the fact that something was on fire. Uncle dashed into the room. He sprayed some oil on the vegetables to save them. Unfortunately, it was not cooking oil, but rather machine oil. The vegetables were no longer fit to eat. Uncle had no choice but to discard everything.
