Answer:- When Bepin failed to recognise the man, Parimal Ghose, he was taken aback.  He seemed confused and stared at Bepin Babu in disbelief because Bepin had a memory lapse of his stay in Ranchi.

Answer:- Bepin Babu said that he was in Kanpur to attend Durga puja with friend in October ‘58’.

Answer:-  Bepin Babu was surprised to hear the intimate details about his life from a stranger, Parimal Ghose. There was no any valid reason why he should tell a lie. He wondered whether he really had forgotten about his trip to Ranchi.

Question 2. How did he try to decide who was right—his memory or Parimal Ghose?

Answer:- In order to decide who was right – his memory or Parimal Ghose, Bepin Babu First decided to examine the injury on his right knee when he discovered he had no recollection of it. He finally decided to contact Dinesh Mukerji because according to Parimal Mukerji he was also in Ranchi at that time

Question 3. Why did Bepin Babu hesitate to visit Mr Mukerji? Why did he finally decide to phone him?

Answer:-  Bepin Babu was hesitate to visit Mr. Mukerji, believing that it would be silly if he had visited Ranchi in reality. Mukerji would believe Bepin Babu was insane. As a result, Bepin babu decided to call him.

Question 4. What did Mr Mukerji say? Did it comfort Bepin Babu, or add to his worries?

Answer:-  Mr. Mukerji checked his diary and found that he and Bepin Babu both had visited Ranchi in October 1958. This confirmation add to his worries, and he couldn’t figure out why and how he hadn’t remembered his visit to Ranchi.

Answer:-  Chunilal was Bepin Babu’s old friend. He had been having a rough time lately and he wanted a favour from Bepin Babu in his job.

Question 2. Why was Dr Chanda puzzled? What was unusual about Bepin Babu’s loss of memory?

Answer:-  After hearing Bepin Babu’s memory lapse, Dr. Chanda became puzzled because his case  was very complicated he remembered everything about his background except his visit to Ranchi. As a result, Dr. Chanda advised him to travel to Ranchi in order to try to recollect any past events that might trigger memories.

Answer:-  No, probably not. Bepin Babu had no lapse in recollection and had not forgotten about his trip to Ranchi. Chunilal’s letter said that he had pulled a prank on Bepin Babu, who had refused to help him to find a job.

Question 2. Why do you think Chunilal did what he did? Chunilal says he has no money; what is it that he does have?

Answer:-  Because Bepin Babu had never assisted him in finding a suitable job, Chunilal had planned the entire situation to punish him by rekindling a haunting memory of his fall near Hudroo, Ranchi. Chunilal didn’t have a job or any money, but he had a powerful imagination. As a result, he created a novel that a publisher was considering, and he hoped that it would provide him with a source of money.

Answer:-  Bepin Babu was described as a serious and hardworking man. He had been associated in a big firm for the past twenty-five years and was doing a responsible job there. With that he had a reputation for being a tireless and conscientious worker.

Question 2. Why did Bepin Babu change his mind about meeting Chunilal? What was the result of this meeting?

Answer:-   Chunilal would frequently visit Bepin Babu, requesting him to help him find a job. Bepin Babu, on the other hand, used to decline to meet with him. He had no desire to help Chunilal in his situation. That day, however, he changed his mind and decided to meet Chunilal and ask him if he remembered his Ranchi visit. Chunilal, on the other hand, confirmed Bepin Babu’s visit to Ranchi. Bepin Babu, got confused by this, decidedto take  the advice of a professional doctor and sought therapy for his memory loss.

Question 3. Bepin Babu lost consciousness at Hudroo Falls. What do you think was the reason for this?

Answer:-  Bepin Babu lost consciousness at Hudroo Falls after realising that this was the only spot that could help him remember his earlier journey to Ranchi in 1958.  However, he had no recollection of any of the events and soon he fell down beside a boulder near Hudroo and broke his hip by accident.

Question 4. How do you think Bepin Babu reacted when he found out that Chunilal had tricked him?

Answer:-  When Bepin Babu found out that he had been tricked by Chunilal, he felt terrible for not assisting Chuni in his hour of need. He regretted not assisting Chunilal and realised that he had fallen victim to forgetfulness, having forgotten the true meaning of friendship during his prosperity.
